I am a transplant to beautiful Lake County, Illinois. Living in the middle of a woodland makes it easy to keep tabs on natural occurrences and rhythms of the earth. I love to mark passing time by paying attention to recurring natural events. Who needs a calendar when you can simply listen to the owls and watch the forest floor?
Fortunately, my family is passionate about the outdoors as well. I am discovering nature all over again through my sons’ eyes. Just last week my youngest spotted a white-tailed deer through our living room window. His arm outstretched towards the visitor, he looked up at me excitedly and muttered “dur.” Awww, his fifth word—deer—Mommy’s mini-naturalist!
